Industries with flow systems we have modeled

Refineries, power stations, water utilities, process plants and large buildings all run on piping and ducting networks. Each card below names the systems involved and the prior project experience behind it.

Discuss your system

Projects referenced on this page were performed by our team members before FSPG. Clients and sites are not named.

Pipe rack and process column at an industrial plant

Refining and petrochemical

Cooling-water networks serving large numbers of exchangers, firewater systems and process piping. Prior work includes calibrating a Gulf Coast refinery cooling-water model with more than 125 heat exchangers against more than 700 field measurements.

Power station and cooling tower in a hazy landscape

Power generation

Nuclear cooling water, condenser circulating water and gas-turbine fuel gas. Prior work includes a two-train nuclear station cooling-water model, condenser cooling-water surge studies and a fuel-gas transient study at a two-turbine plant.

Aerial view of a circular water treatment clarifier

Water and wastewater

Pump stations, force mains and transmission pipelines. A city pump station and force main was analyzed for pump trips, pump starts and pipeline rupture, with each scenario documented for the client.

Process plant structure with piping and platforms

Chemical and process plants

Process piping where valve closures and pump trips drive the design, including a pump trip analysis on a molten sulfur production system.

Glass high-rise office towers

Buildings and HVAC

Chilled-water and exhaust systems in large buildings. An operational model of a high-rise chilled-water system was completed in half the time proposed under a fixed-price contract.

Hydroelectric dam and powerhouse below a reservoir

Not on the list?

The physics does not change from one industry to the next. Hydroelectric and island energy systems, pipelines and plant utilities all come down to flow, pressure and transients in a network, so if your system moves a liquid or a gas through pipe or duct, it can be modeled.
